Our Approach

Child‑Centred Safeguarding

Every child has the right to be safe. We believe that children should be seen, heard and helped. All adults who work with children in our nursery are responsible for keeping them safe and promoting their welfare.

Multi‑Agency Partnership

We work closely with the Bromley Safeguarding Children Partnership (BSCP), children’s social care, the Metropolitan Police, health services and other relevant agencies to ensure cohesive protection for children. Bromley’s Safeguarding Children Partnership is the multi‑agency body coordinating local arrangements to protect and promote the welfare of children and young people.

Key Policies & Procedures

Key Policies & Procedures
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy
We have a named DSL who leads safeguarding practice at the nursery. The DSL (and the deputy) are appropriately trained, experienced, and responsible for ensuring safeguarding policies are understood and followed consistently.
Safer Recruitment and Staff Vetting
All staff, volunteers, and anyone working closely with children undergo robust background checks (including DBS where appropriate) and checks against disqualification regulations under the EYFS and relevant legislation. References are taken up, identities are verified, and ongoing suitability is monitored.
Recognising and reporting concerns
All staff are highly trained in recognising, managing and supporting safeguarding for children and their families. Staff are required to report any concerns immediately to the DSL. We follow Bromley’s procedures: using the Children and Families Hub / portal to make referrals when needed; calling emergency services (999) when there is possible risk of immediate or significant harm to the child; and escalating concerns if responses are unsatisfactory.
Keeping Records
Detailed records are kept of any concerns, disclosures, or incidents. These are factual and will record what was said, what was observed, who was involved, when, where, and what was done. Records are stored securely, confidentially, and only shared with those who need to know, while complying with legal requirements, in line with GDPR and date protection.
Safe Environment & Safeguarding in Practice
We ensure our physical environment is safe, secure and well‑supervised.
Health, safety and hygiene protocols are maintained.
Children are always supervised appropriately, and ratios are maintained at all times, including on outings or during transitions.
Use of mobile phones, cameras (including any recording or communication devices) or social media in the setting is tightly controlled; consent is sought from parents for photographs, and staff follow strict policies regarding sharing images.
Boundaries and acceptable behaviour are clearly defined, and children are supported in understanding these through our routines and everyday activities.
Working with Parents & Carers
We believe safeguarding is a partnership. We inform parents/carers about our safeguarding policy when their child starts, we keep open communication if concerns arise, and support parents/ carers in accessing services where needed. We expect parents/carers to share relevant information (e.g. about health, home circumstances) that could affect their child’s wellbeing.
Our safeguarding policies draw on:
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, including requirements for safeguarding and welfare.
The Children Act 1989 & 2004, which establish duties to protect children.
Working Together to Safeguard Children, national guidance for multi‑agency working.
London Safeguarding Children Procedures, which set procedures used across London, including in Bromley.
Local policies and procedures set out by Bromley Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Any unknow adults must be listed on the authorised collection paperwork and know the secure the password on your child’s paperwork.
If in an emergency parents are running late, they must inform us so that we can make appropriate arrangements and let the child know.
If children are not collected on time, then the following procedure applies: –
Parents will be contacted on Famly and messages left where appropriate on answer machines/voicemail and by email.
If we are unable to contact parents, then we will ring both the emergency contacts from the child’s file. Messages will be left where appropriate on answer machines/voicemail.
In the unlikely event of not being able to contact either parents or emergency contacts and/or not receiving any messages within one-hour Children’s Services will be notified.
Two members of staff will remain with the child, one of which will be a senior.

Planning, assessment and review
Plan – do – review
Planning – Would like to keep this detailed
Our planning is tailored to each child’s interests and developmental needs, ensuring engaging and meaningful learning experiences every day
Intent – At Kids Nursery, our aim is to provide a rich, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn. Our curriculum is designed around the EYFS framework and tailored to meet the individual needs of all children, supporting their development across all areas of learning, including personal, social, and emotional growth.
Implementation – we deliver our curriculum through purposeful play, adult-guided experiences, and child-initiated learning. Skilled practitioners use observation and assessment to inform planning and ensure each child is supported and challenged appropriately. We promote communication, curiosity, creativity, and resilience through daily routines and exciting, hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors.
Impact – Children leave our setting confident, independent, and ready for the next stage of their learning. They make strong progress from their starting points, including those with SEND and EAL. Through our nurturing approach and strong partnerships with families, children develop a love of learning and the foundations they need to thrive at school and beyond.
Tracking
Each child will have tracking assessment completed termly. This will be complete by your child’s Key worker or secondary key worker.
Your child will also have a baseline assessment completed with in the first 6 weeks.
All children aged 2 will have a Intergrated 2 year review completed by their key worker or secondary key worker.
Transition to other settings – PVIs / Nursery Classes / Reception Classes
Provision for 3–4-year-olds is adapted over the years to provide more adult-led activities. Secure assessments and the regular monitoring of these enable our staff to identify gaps so they can adapt provision to ensure that children have the skills they need for starting school.

Where appropriate we plan transition TAC meetings, ensuring our strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies, including Children’s Services, Early Years Inclusion Team, health visitors etc.

Our settings aim to provide additional support for parents and carers of children less likely to make a secure start. We may accompany these families to their new settings if appropriate and help them choose the most appropriate settings, reacting swiftly to provide support.

Transition for children transferring to other nurseries will be set with the above standards and expectations.
